A SONNET. By a Friend
by Anonymous
Cupid! god of soft desire, Aim at Stella's breast a dart, Kindle there thy am'rous fire, Such as glows round Strephon's heart.
When I sigh, Oh! make her languish, When my bosom's calm'd with peace; Far be from her ev'ry anguish, Joy sit smiling on her face!
Thus each bliss and care dividing, Blest and happy with our lot; Nought of pomp or state residing In our peaceful, humble cot.
