Address to the Goddess of Love
by Anonymous
Thou lovely daughter of the sea, Smile now propitious upon me, And dry this glist'ning tear; Quick do thou my fond suit convey, With fairest flowers strew all the way To her I love most dear.
While Phoebus' aids buckle his car, Steal softly from thy Sylvan war, And take a lover's part: Send, send thy little boy before, With darts and arrows in full store, To captivate her heart.
Let the sweet music of the grove, With am'rous doves surround my love, To raise the flame of joy! So shall I tread Elysian ground, And ev'ry thing be rapture found, All bliss without alloy.
