FRANCE and FREEDOM. AN ODE

Lift alost the trumpet, Oh sound, sound Fame, The heavenly decree, That the world shall be free, While sweet Liberty, And Equality, Consume tyranny, with freedom's awful sacred flame. From the west to the east let the tidings roll, To charm each free-born soul: Shout, shout for France—the cap display, Fair Freedom greets her natal day; Mankind, shall loathe the tyrant's hateful baneful name.

Raise the joyful chorus, High poize the glass; 'Tis a boon from on high, To our noble ally; 'Tis a gracious behest, On its tour from the west, To kill slavery, while despots to oblivion pass. Good will from heaven to man desconds; The enfranchis'd world are friends; Shout, shout, and make a joyful noise, 'Tis France and Freedom crowns our joys: He who denies the toast we'll banish from our class.
