English poem
GLEE. (Welcome every sprightly guest)
by Anonymous
Welcome every sprightly guest, Let us the hand of time arrest; With each harmonic aid, Let no discordant sounds arise; To drive Cecilia to the skies, But shield your sainted maid.
Listen to the inviting strains Of charming maids and dying swains 'Till love shall lead astray, Our soldiers breathing soft desires, Instead of war and martial fires, While Orpheus tunes his lay.
