English poem
Madrigal

For me my fair a wreath has wove, Where rival flow'rs in union meet; As oft' she kiss'd the gift of love, Her breath gave sweetness to the sweet.
A bee within a damask'd rose Had crept the nectar'd dew to sip; But lesser sweets the thief foregoes, And fasten's on Louisa's lip.
There tasting all the sweets af spring, Wak'd by the rip'ning breath of May, Th' ungrateful spoiler left the sting, And with the honey fled away.
Then to th' affrighted fair I flew, And, hasting to relieve the smart, I kiss'd the gentle maid, and drew The subtle poison to my heart.
