Psalm CIV. Sec. Part. Long Metre. The Seaman's Prayer
by Anonymous
Almighty ruler of the skies, How various are thy works! how wise! Thy power throughout all space extends, Sinks through all depth, all height transcends
Not earth alone beholds her shores, Enrich'd by thy exhaustless stores; Alike throughout their liquid reign, The spreading seas thy gifts contain.
Beneath, unnumber'd fishes swarm, Of different size, of various form; Above, the ships incumbent ride, Borne on the bosom of the tide,
Here, huge Leviathan is seen To sport, the mighty waves between; There, icy mountains float and roll, Driv'n from the seas beneath the pole.
On high, the concave we behold In living blue, or sparkling gold; Whilst waving, azure fields around, Spread to th' horizon's utmost bound.
The winds and waves obey thy will; The needle owns thy power and skill; And steer'd by thy directing hand, Our bark shall gain the wish'd for land·
