Song LXI. a Smile
by Anonymous
Say, Lovely Polly, have you never seen, (Tis by the Way of a Smile I mean;) The Farmer's Wife, upon a festive Night, To grace her Board her Christmas Candle Light; Upon some Pedestal advance it high, With a sew taper rush Lights standing by, Which dimly mimic its superior ray, And in a Sort of envy soon decay? So, when you visit any Publick place, And there display the beauties of your Face, All other Females round you faintly shine, Lost is their lustre in your Blaze divine.
