English poem
We'll drink, and we'll never have done…
by Anonymous
We'll drink, and we'll never have done, boys; Put the glass then round with the sun, boys. Let A pollo's example invite us: For he's drunk every night, That makes him so bright, That he's able next morning to light us.
Drinking's a Christian diversion, Unknown to Turk and the Persian: Let Mahometan fools Live by Heathenish rules, And dream o'er their tea-pots and coffee; We'll handle our glasses, And drink to our lasses, And a fig for their Sultan and Sophy.
