The Beauty Always in Season

by (1727–1805)

Listen in the reader

In Chloe, Paradise of Sweets, All Nature's Gifts appear; In her each Charm united meets, That marks the varied Year.

The Spring adorns her Cheeks, and sows His freshest Roses there; Her Lips, where moist Carnation glows, His redd'ning Touch declare.

The Summer to her beaming Eyes The Sun's fierce Heat conveys; 'Tis hence those thrilling Ardors rise, That melt me whilst I gaze.

Autumn has 'midst her Bosom's Pride Two tempting Apples plac'd: Grant Heav'n it may not be deny'd To me that Fruit to taste!

Kind Winter o'er her Skin has strown A Veil of driven Snow; Banish'd be Cold from Love's soft Throne, And then my Joys o'erflow!

No more, ye Swains, my Passion blame As blind and void of Reason; Since Chloe's Charms inspire my Flame, Charms never out of Season!
