Great GOD, we bow before thy throne, Our prostrate souls adore thy name, Thou art the source from which alone All being and perfection came.

The greatest and the best below, And nobler essences above, To thee their excellencies owe, As emanations of thy love.

Thy wisdom, power, and goodness shine In all the wonders thou hast done For North America, thro' thine Illustrious servant, WASHINGTON!

In rueful war thou wast his GOD, Gave him success and kindly spread, Midst dying shrieks and waves of blood, Protection o'er his sacred head.

Thine all pervading hand appears In all his grateful country's bliss, The splendor of his highest spheres, And all the charms of smiling peace.

Thy grace sustain'd him in his death, Thro' faith in CHRIST he knew no fears, With Christian hope resign'd his breath, In perfect peace, mature in years.

With melting eyes on thee we call, O GOD, of every good the source, May we who mourn our Hero's fall Pursue with zeal his shining course!
