Inscription for the Obelisk at the Boyne
by John Hawkesworth (1715–1773)
Reader, thou tread'st the memorable ground, Where justice was with glorious laurels crown'd; Where fire innoxious drew great WILLIAM's blood, When bravely planning for Britannia's good; Where valiant SCHOMBERG fell with deathless fame, SCHOMBERG deserving of an hero's name; Where mighty NASSAU crush'd Hibernia free'd, And this commemorates th' immortal deed.
