The Word of Salvation sent to us. Acts xiii. 26
by Philip Doddridge (1773–1832)
And why do our admiring Eyes These Gospel-Glories see? And whence, doth ev'ry Heart reply, Salvation sent to me?
In fatal Shades of Midnight Gloom Ten thousand Wretches stray; And Satan blinds ten thousand more Amidst the Blaze of Day.
Millions of raging Souls beneath In endless Anguish hear Harmonious Sounds of Grace transform'd To Ecchos of Despair.
And dost Thou, LORD, subdue my Heart, And shew my Sins forgiv'n, And bear thy Witness to my Part Amongst the Heirs of Heav'n?
As the Redeemed of the LORD, We sing the Saviour's Name; And, while the long Salvation lasts, Its sov'reign Grace proclaim.
