English poem
Hic Jacet Qui in Hoc Saeculo Fideliter Militavit
HE that has left hereunder The signs of his release Feared not the battle's thunder Nor hoped that wars should cease; No hatred set asunder His warfare from his peace.
Nor feared he in his sleeping To dream his work undone, To hear the heathen sweeping Over the lands he won; For he has left in keeping His sword unto his son.
