The Poetical Triumvirate
by William Kenrick (1774–1829)
Poor Dryden! what a theme hadst thou, Compar'd with that which offers now? What are your Britons, Romans, Grecians, Compar'd with thorough-bred Milesians? Step into G—ff-n's shop, he'll tell ye Of G—ds—th, B—k-rs—ff, and K-ll-: Three poets of one age and nation, Whose more than mortal reputation, Mounting in trio to the skies, O'er Milton's fame and Virgil's flies; While, take one Irish evidence for t'other, Ev'n Homer's self is but their foster-brother.
