A New Song

Hark! Hark! a joyous, cheering sound Hails those, in chains monarch'al, bound; Greets every Freeman's ear! 'Tis Freedom's voice! the glad'ning song Bursts forth in raptures from her tongue, Her Gallic cause to cheer!

My Sons, she cried, the day's your own, And vict'ry all your toils shall crown; Fell Monarchy must die! In Europe's climes, no King shall reign; But Liberty rule each domain Supreme in majesty!

Columbia smiles! her joys encrease! Her sons are bless'd with Plenty—Peace! The fruits of Bravery! Her heroes, boldly, took the field; Determin'd, nobly, not to yield To Kingly knavery!

From her example—Frenchmen, then, Persist—Support your Rights as Men; And bravely, whilst you can, My Standard plant in Gallia's ground; And thunder to the Nations round, THE DIGNITY OF MAN!!!
