English poem
THE SHRUBS OF PARNASSUS, &c, SONG
by Anonymous
Blow soft, ye winds! ye Zephyrs blow! Ye crystal streams, ah! gently flow! Ye fragrant gales perfume around, While beauty decks the verdant ground.
For here CLARINDA'S lull'd to rest, (The darling pride of all the plain) But ah! she scorns to make me blest; With scorn she shuns her constant swain.
Waft to her ears, kind CUPID, pray, A soft and tender sigh from me; O! bid her rise whilst here I stay, And set her faithful captive free.
