English poem
On a Proper Behavior to Superiors, Equals and Inferiors
How shall a child of tender years Like me his worship pay? Lord teach my heart to think, and then No matter what I say.
Let me this truth remember still; That thy Almighty hand Fram'd all the numerous sons of men That dwell in every land.
Then shall I love them all; since all Descended Lord from thee, And think my service justly due, To every one I see.
Then to my betters with respect, My conduct shall I frame; And with my equals, know the joy Of friendship's sacred flame.
While those whose rank—thy providence My state has plac'd above, Close to my bosom I shall bind— By offices of LOVE.
